Constellation Story Activity

Here’s a fun and simple activity to teach about constellations while working on fine motor skills and cognitive skills. We explained to our CAMPers how people used to stargaze and that since they didn’t have all the lights that we do now, they could see way more stars. These people would imagine shapes and figures in the stars much like we do with clouds. They would then make up stories about these shapes and figures. We drew out a couple of examples on the chalk board to explain.

We then passed out black construction paper glue and clear and white beads.

The CAMPers were then asked to make up their own constellation placing their beads carefully on the paper.

They would then tell us about their pictures. Some had stories and some just had names. We loved how creative they all got.

What you’ll need

· Glue

· White or Clear Beads
